Two-Day Workshop: Saturday 23rd of August and Sunday 24th of August, 11.00 am – 1.00 pm.
Those who saw Andre’s exhibition here at the Centre in July will possibly have been surprised to see the possibilities of paper mâché as medium. These workshops over Saturday and Sunday will give you an understanding of how to work with this medium for fine and detailed sculptural work.
Andre is an artist from Isfahan which is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and is known for its rich cultural heritage, and its creative practitioners and crafts people. This heritage is reflected in his work creating 3 dimensional pieces with a modernist feel which draw on the traditions of Persian sculpture. The workshops will look at the techniques he uses to build his pieces.
This is a more advanced form of paper mâché to the paste and newspaper we may have utilised before, and is capable of creating strong, versatile forms. In the 1st workshop on August 23rd, Andre will teach participants how to prepare the paste and construct the three-dimensional structure. Then on the second day, Sunday August 24th, he will focus on how to apply the paste and create the sculpture itself.
